چکیده

Anticoagulant activity of acenocoumarin (Sintrcm) has been determined in dogs, Prothrombin values were determined according to modified Quick's method (Montigel 1962). Prothrombin index and coagulation valency were deduced from the prothrombin time. The results were compared with the reference drug ethylbiscoumacetate. Acenocoumarin was found to be 60 times more potent than ethylbiscoumacetate. The onset of action was however slower but the total duration of action was much longer than ethylbiscoumacetate. There was no evidence of toxic symptoms in the dogs even in high doses. The mechanism of anticoagulant action seems to be hypoprothrombinemia caused by the drug.

CHARACTERIZATION OF AN ANTICOAGULANT AGENT IN THE VENOM OF IRANIAN COBRA (NAJA NAJA OXIANA).

Snake venoms contain a rich variety of factors which affect blood coagulation. There have been few reports on the anticoagulant activity of the venom of different cobras, but no such observations have been made on the Iranian cobra, although a procoagulant factor has been described. In this study an anticoagulant factor has been purified from the venom of Naja naja oxiana using gel filtrat...

Partial Purification and Characterization of Anticoagulant Factor from the Snake (Echis carinatus) Venom

Objective(s): Snake venoms contain complex mixture of proteins with biological activities. Some of these proteins affect blood coagulation and platelet function in different ways. Snake venom toxin may serve as a starting material for drug design to combat several pathophysiological problems such as cardiovascular disorders. In the present study, purification of anticoagulation facto...

Effect of anticoagulant therapy upon aspirin-induced gastrointestinal bleeding.

ASPIRIN has been shown to cause gastro-intestinal bleeding. Although the blood loss associated with the relatively small dosage that is customarily used is slight (usually well below 10 ml. per day),' there are some situations in which the safety of aspirin may be questioned. Such a situation is the administration of aspirin to patients who are simultaneously receiving anticoagulant therapy. So...

Identification of Fibrinolytic Activity in Iranian Vipera Lebetina Venom

Background and purpose: Vipera lebetina lives in different areas in Iran, and its venom contains a variety of proteins with coagulant and anticoagulant activities. Fibrinolytic enzymes could have a therapeutic role in dissolution of blood clots, so, this study aimed at separating the venom components of Iranian V. lebetina and detecting its anticoagulant activity. Materials and methods: In thi...
